This makes me wish I liked egg nog:
When you are a parent you have two choices; either laugh at the situation, or hide.
(Just don't let the kids see you laugh.)

Lessons Learned
The other day I was making cinnamon rolls, and throughout the process I learned a few things. I should note that making cinnamon rolls is a normal event in my house; however, every now and then a lesson is learned in the process.
Actually, this could be a If I Twittered post, since I was posting on Facebook during the whole process. But, it isn't, because it is my blog, that is why.
No matter how much I prepare ahead of time, I will short on one ingredient, and realize I have triple of another. Sugar, check. Flour, check. Milk, check. Cinnamon, check. Butter, check. Oil, oops. Powder Sugar, x 3.
The day I have no dishwasher, and no hot water, may not be the best of days to bake cinnamon rolls.
The flurry of activity in my kitchen probably looks more like the Swedish Chef, then Martha Stewart.
I'm glad I have not yet swept the kitchen floor, since there is flour on the floor, and all over my feet. There is also flour foot prints in the living room, on the newly vacuumed rug.

I Have a Confession
Earlier in the week I wrote about my lost motivation.
Well, this may be one of the reasons why:
It is a game found on Webkinz.
No, I don't have an account, but my children do, and I've been racking up the points for them. My dear daughter managed to spend 4,000 of those points, collected over several weeks of play, in one afternoon on furniture, clothes and food for her Webkinz.
I'm not a big game player. However, this has gotten serious. To the point I have found message boards, giving tips on the game. I have written out cheat sheets, which I use for each game.
Serious and crazy.

Video Delight
For all of you, like me, who are anxiously waiting for the Royal Wedding.
Stop laughing. Yes, some of us are excited, and we are planning parties. I may make Hubby very happy, by saying yes to a DVR, just so I can record the wedding. I'm excited and everything, but not 6:00 am excited.
Here is a little something to tide you over:

ROFL!!!!!!
It was Hubby who showed me this video. And, let me share ... after the first skit, where the husband says he will stay home and watch the Notebook with her, she closes her computer "notebook" and he turns on the TV, Hubby says "I thought they were going to watch the notebook, why did he turn on the TV?". LOL!

Who doesn't want their very own TARDIS? Minus those nasty Daleks chasing you around time and dimensions.
And, with those two sentences, I officially placed myself in syfy geekdom. Hey, I will let you know I watched Dr. Who when most Americans were asking "Dr. what?" Let's hear it for Tom Baker and Peter Davison (Dr.s #s 4 & 5).
Any way {{{cough}}}{{{cough}}} with that all said, here is a fun little video delight that doesn't seem to do much more then give homage to the great TARDIS. I did check the website, it is safe to travel over there, apparently they are asking people to build their own TARDIS and send in pictures.

These commercials make me laugh. Unless, it happened to me, then I would probably be crying. Unless it was Dean Winters falling on my car, really, would any girl complain? So, I'm not sure if I like the commercials because they are funny, of if it is because of Dean Winters' roguish good looks?
What do you think?

Princess Bride and Star Wars. Combined. Life is good.
Sorry. What can I say? I'm a child of the 80's, Gen X'er, and all that other stuff.
Enjoy!
While watching this video I thought it was high time to introduce my children to the Princess Bride. Ooops, language. Maybe in a couple years.

Video Delight
So, Thursday is supposed to be my computer day: write a few posts for the blog, do some job research, maybe get around to writing that children's book (which is rolling around in my head.)
Instead, I'm watching this video. On the Rocks, an acappella group from the University of Oregon, sing Lady Gaga's Bad Romance.
And, trying, very hard, not to spew coffee all over my laptop. They are good singers, but most of them, probably, should not be imitating a pop singer, and her dancing posse. Let us just say, they bring a whole new meaning to "... I want your ugly ...", when they sing this.
Set the coffee down, and enjoy a good chuckle.

It has been a little crazy around our house, which means I haven't had a chance to sit and write.
The perfect excuse for another video delight.
And, this one is for all the teachers out there. Who could be doing something else, because they can, but instead, they do what they love. Keep doing what you are doing, because you are great at it.
***The title "video delight" comes from a former teacher, one who did push us to the outer limits of our ability, and made us sweat for every grade we received.

Video Delight
My morning looked a little like this:
I volunteered in EM's class, this morning. We started our morning with an art project, tissue paper pictures. I couldn't stop. While all the kids were obediently cleaning up, from playtime, I'm sitting at the table finishing my picture.
Forget all those corporate, trust building, team building, retreats, management meetings. What companies really need are tissue paper, stick glue, and craft time. Oh, and one of those power tower amusement rides, in every elevator.

Video Delight
I posted this two years ago, as noted below, when JT went off to his first week of camp. This year it is ED's turn. He is presently enjoying his first night at camp. Though, I'm not suffering from the same amount of separation anxiety, I thought the video, and posting, deserves a replay:
Our oldest is spending this week at overnight camp. I do hope he is having a better time then this poor kid:
In February/March, when we registered him for camp, it sounded like a good idea. Last year he enjoyed several overnight and weekend programs with his Grandfather and Dad. And, the prospect of going to camp "by himself" was almost too much excitement for him to handle. As the date of departure approached he was still excited, I however went into "Mom Worry" mode.
His Dad dropped him off at camp. When they arrived they were given a list of the check-in procedures; the last one stated that parents should meet the counselor, help their child make their bed, and then leave. Apparently, some parents need encouragement in leaving their baby behind. This is why my husband dropped off our son. Had I been the delegated parent, camp staff would have had to escort me off the grounds, after they found me hiding in the bushes.
Really, it is another reminder of how quickly they grow up. One summer we are wishing they were old enough for camp; then all too soon our wish is granted, and we are wishing them home.
***Updated: The video is now updated. Apparently the video I used two years ago was no longer available.

I'm swaggin' (or is it "swaggen"?) with the school kids today, on their tricycles. I'm looking for those steel-toed boots, ouch.
And the fact that I'm asking how to spell the word just illustrates my total lack of hipness.
With that said, enjoy the video below.

Public Service Annoucement
This evening Dear Hubby was telling me about his day, "systems crashing ... code disappearing ... making fun of plumbers ..." Huh! How did we go from computer gibberish to plumbers and their low hanging pants?
One of the (few) ladies in their department was wearing low-rise jeans today, um ... making it necessary for everyone to avert their eyes when she bent over. And ladies, you don't have to bend far before low-rise jeans show it all.
Maybe you don't mind if the whole world sees your "natal cleft", but the world does. Please, when you try on jeans do all the important tests before buying. It could save someone from whiplash.
