We also like to own our books, or at least hold them longer then the 2 weeks allowed by the library. (Don't get me wrong, we fully support our local library. On a regular basis, though, it can be hard to make it to the library, and some weeks finish a book in 2 weeks.) And, when you own a lot of books you then have a lot of books to trade, share or get rid of somehow.
So, with our family's love of books, and with an emerging reader who goes through books daily, I was excited to hear about Paperback Swap.
Paperback Swap is an online book trading outlet; trading paperback, hardback, and audio books. They also have a site to trade CDs and DVDs.
Here is what happens: Post the books you want to trade. When you post your first 10 books you receive 2 free book credits. Use those credits to request books. You earn credits when another member requests one of your books.
The site gives you a mailing label to print, you can purchase postage and delivery confirmation (which I highly recommend) on their site and it is all printed from your printer.
If a book you want is not posted you can add it to your wish list. When another member posts that book you will be notified.
And the price to all this book swapping? FREE!
Membership is free. You pay postage to mail your books (media mail rate.) When you request a book it is mailed to you for free.
Their whole website and the trading system is well thought out and easy to use. Trading books has introduced me to new authors, and allow me to read their whole collection. As the kid's grow I've traded their baby books for story books, learn-to-read books, and chapter books. And when we are done with those I'm trading them.
Thanks to Paperback Swap I'm ready for Callapidder Days Spring Reading Thing. Hope to see you there.

Edited to add: For more Works for Me Wednesday tips head over to We are That Family. Every Wednesday hundreds of links are posted, all with the best ideas. You will never have to Google again. (OK, that is a bit of an overstatement.)
I also had to change the banner at top. Last night I posted the old one, from Rocks in My Dryer. Obviously the WFMW carnival has moved. This is what happens when I post late at night.

I used to be a member but got overwhelmed with the requests. It's a great service for book lovers. And it's nice receiving something other then junk mail.
Thanks for sharing your WFMW tip.
