Tiny Talk Tuesday

Welcome to the dining edition to Tiny Talk Tuesday. TTT is hosted weekly by Mary at Not Before 7 (and though we have never met I know we would be good friends for her blog title alone) and is a time when we share the hilarious, and sometimes embarrassing, things our little ones say.

Every household has their own language. As kids develop they are learning about the world around them, and when they ask questions they can only ask in ways they understand. I repeat, in ways THEY understand, us parents on the other hand are left to make up a "kid to adult translation manual." (And every now and then we forget to share this special manual with our significant other, sorry Hubby.)

Our special language seems to deal with food, which is fitting for us. In fact, we have begun sounding like short order cooks.

It all began when my oldest was 2 years-old and after watching a Teletubbies episode he asked for "tubbie toast." Not having a toaster that made round smiley faced toast shoot across the room I came up with regular toast bearing a ketchup smiley face. Why ketchup? I don't know, but kids love ketchup, trust me.

Next was "I want a grilled cheese sandwich, not cooked." Translation: A regular cheese sandwich.

"A sandwich without a top." means an open faced sandwich.

"A peanut butter and jelly sandwich, without the peanut butter." Or, "without the jelly." You can figure out that translation.

EM's most recent food request: "I want my eggs yellow and white." Hubby took this to mean a sunny-side up egg. EM was not happy and kept telling her Daddy she wanted it "yellow and white" and this was not "yellow and white". Neither understood the other until I stumbled out of bed and explained that she wanted scrambled eggs.

Happy Tiny Talk Tuesday. For more fun head over to Mary's at Not Before 7.

Those are SO FUNNY! Thank goodness someone can interpret. I am not sure I would have gotten the tubbie toast or yellow and white eggs!
