The Safety Patrol

This evening we took a walk up to the local school, well my husband and I walked and the kids rode their bikes. The older two rode ahead and when I caught up to them I found that they had stopped to wait for us ... in the middle of the parking lot, right where the cars cross to leave.

It was one of those parenting moments when you realized they were trying to do the right thing, but the execution left much to be desired. Knowing they had stopped to wait for us I asked if that was their plan. They said yes, and I praised them. I then asked them if they knew what their safety violation was? Ummm? "Well, it was great that you stopped and waited for us, however please wait on the side walk, not in the middle of the road, even if it is a near deserted parking lot." "Ohhhh" they replied.

Oh well, 1 for 2 isn't bad? We have to start somewhere and I should be proud of them for waiting for us.
