Visit Your Local Farmer's Market

Today we headed to the Farmer's Market and I was like a child in a candy shop. No seriously, the summer harvest is in full swing and there was so much to choose from I went a little crazy. I've never been a huge vegetable fan, always preferring more basic vegetables like carrots and cucumbers.

Several years ago we joined a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture), where you pay a certain amount to a local farmer and they provide you a weekly share of their produce from spring through fall. When you pick up that box containing several bags of lettuce and spinach, some asparagus, a pound of kale, and peas you quickly learn how to cook and serve these items and more importantly how delicious fresh produce tastes.

Shopping at your local farmer's market benefits your local economy, supports local produce, and gives you the freshest produce possible (unless you grow your own produce.) To find a market or CSA near you check out Local Harvest.
