Summer vacation is in full swing. The kids are home, and thanks to a scheduling fluke my husband is traveling for 7 weeks during the summer.
The first full week of vacation, and without husband, went amazingly well. I've decided the key to a successful summer is a schedule. Each day we enjoy a different activity, each week a different craft. Is it overkill to also have scheduled breakfast and dinner menus as well? In the mornings we enjoy the library, local children's museum, a play date, and "field trip Friday". In the afternoon we schedule quiet time, media time (TV, L-Max, or computer time.) Then there is water play, dinner, water play, and most importantly BED.
I'm also assigning chores to the kids: clearing the table, loading the dishwasher, vacuuming the floor. Jobs the munchkins can successfully complete with little help from me. At least I 'm trying, in completing anything my biggest enemy is the follow-through of any idea. Chore assignments is something I've wanted to start, but during the school year haven't been organized enough to start. Hopefully, if we succeed at this over the summer we can carry it into the school year.
One week down. The activity schedule worked great, the household chores wavered, (sometimes it's just easier to send them out to play then round them up to help clear the breakfast table.) but the summer is young. Check back over the summer for an update on our summer. While here, leave a comment about your summer, household chores, and if you have scheduled your summer days.
