One rescheduled trip
Two snow storms
Multiple trips to the store
10 people in our house, 6 of which were ages 8 and under. Thankfully, though the adults were outnumbered, add up our ages and we still ruled
12 pairs of snow boats, 12 mittens, 6 hats, 6 pairs of snow bibs
5 new games downloaded from iTunes
1 pair of socks mixed in with the dress-up clothes
7 wardrobe changes made with the dress-up clothes (7 per girl)
11 subs for Sunday lunch
2 bottles of wine
1 unopened case of Hard Mikes ... how did that happen?
Multiple stories of family, friends, clients, travels, all recounting the months since our last get-together
1 very good fondue dinner, while all 6 children were sleeping
All of this was experienced during one very relaxing, and fun, but way too short weekend, with friends.
When you are a parent you have two choices; either laugh at the situation, or hide.
(Just don't let the kids see you laugh.)

A Weekend in Review
Busy, busy, and more busy. We had one activity after another and I just prayed we arrived where we needed to be on time, and on the correct day.
Wednesday: Kids to school, back home to steam clean the sofa and work on yard sale stuff. The kids arrived home and we were off to the circus. The goal for the evening: spend as little money as possible. The tickets were free (and the seats were certainly what we paid for.) Thanks to Christmas money from Great-Grandma the kids did enjoy a pony or camel ride, basically an animal of their choice. After the circus it was off to AWANA to meet up with Hubby and finish the pine wood derby cars.
Friday: TO THE GYM. I forced myself to the gym and glad I did, endorphins. To the bank, to the store, back home and finished organizing for the yard sale. There was a big move to clean up the house before the "weekend of crazy" begins. Our old sofa left the house, the kids and Hubby left the house, more yard sale items came to the house, I joined the family at the pine wood derby race.
Sunday: Church, (a very hot) college graduation, home to change clothes and eat left over Chinese food, and off to small group.
We did.
Let's see, I should back up and start our weekend with last Wednesday:

Thursday: I'm off to school with the kids as I'm spending ALL day on a field trip. Hubby's mother was having outpatient surgery so he took the day off to help her home afterwards. Home in time to transfer clothes from the washer to the dryer and I'm off again with EM for her dance recital rehearsal. Yes the one where I assaulted the poor mom from the kid's school. I saw her again on Saturday and apparently she is still talking to me, just from a distance.

Well worth the work, and the early wake-up call. Most everything left the premises, what didn't was donated to the Relay for Life yard sale (next week). Shower, eat some yogurt (so I can say I ate something besides donuts all day). Parent's arrive (with Chinese food, thank you) for dinner, and then off to EM's dance recital.
Sunday: Church, (a very hot) college graduation, home to change clothes and eat left over Chinese food, and off to small group.A great way to end our very busy weekend, spending the evening with friends. Where I can lie on their couch, especially since our new couch will not arrive for another week or two. Our living room consists of an arm chair, two bean bags, and the TV.

My Weekend Away ... My Husband's Side of the Story
So, on Monday I shared about my wonderful weekend away. Me and three girl-friends met at a rustic-like (had a roaring fireplace along with electricity and hot water), comfortable, intimate and ultra cheap place (my parent's house) and enjoyed a weekend of scrapbooking, chocolate, food, a little bit of alcohol, lots of talking, and more food ... and chocolate.
My husband, bless his heart for he never begrudges me a weekend away, had a different type of weekend. No, it wasn't the children (well, one sick child who threw up Saturday night.) For the most part our three little terrors were well behaved.
No, my poor husband had to deal with things breaking down. First it was the computer. Friday night he decided to update our computer security and began to download spyware protection, from a reperatble and well known computer virus program.
W.E.L.L. a virus came along with the spyware protection program. Saturday was spent backing up all our files (thank goodness everything was saved), running out to the store for a new and real (not virtual) virus protection program and Microsoft Office (the program we had on the computer wasn't exactly, well ours to begin with and therefore would be hard to reinstall.)
He then headed to a friend's house to check our hard drive. Thank goodness for good friends, and thank goodness that at least one of our good friends is an IT guy; who shuddered in his boots when he heard we had never reformatted the hard drive (thingy magigy) since purchasing the computer 6 years ago. The rest of the weekend was spent reinstalling everything, and downloading like 100+ patches from Microsoft.
Sunday morning he woke up to 1.) a sick child (who quickly recovered) and 2.) no heat on our first floor. We have dual-zones so the heater upstairs was still working and thankfully the weather was warming up; a balmy 35 degrees Sunday. So he turned off the thermostate and called me to vent his frustrations.
Oh, and later he discovered the ceiling fan in our bedroom was not working. It had been making a funny noise for some time now, but it eventually stops and in my book if the noise eventually stops there is no problem. Ooops.
I arrived home that afternoon and he soon left to watch the Pittsburgh game at a friends house (and enjoy their heat), a much deserved break. Speaking of good friends, they sent him home with a very nice space heater ... thank you!
Monday he had off so his first job that day was to call the heating guy and beg for a service call. The company that installed our system was out of business. It was about this time I bundled up the boys and took them to school.
He eventually found someone who services our heat pump and was able to come that morning, just as the snow was coming down hard. Right before the service guys arrived Hubby turned on the thermostate since they would need the heater running to find the problem ... we had heat!?!?!?!? The service guys were really great, they still checked everything, all fine, and said it was probably our thermostate. Apparently the programmable ones can be tempermental.
So that was Hubby's weekend. Things breaking and shutting down on him and then miracously working again. Oh yes, the fan included. On Monday he went to find and fix the problem when it too began to work again.
It was one of those weekends where you find yourself humming the Twilight Zone theme song and looking behind your shoulder.

... And the cycle continues
Last week, just as we were recovering from our trip to Canada, and the laundry was all washed, and folded, and put away, and all the bags were unpacked, and all the items from said bags, and the bags themselves, were put away, and when the piles of stuff (that somehow accumulates in your house while you are gone) was put away I found myself repeating the whole laundry/packing/traveling dance.
We visited my parents this past weekend. And though it was only a weekend visit laundry still needed to be done, the bags were packed, the kids were strapped back into the car, and off we went. Thankfully it was only a two hour trip, and the kids knew that a pool and Grandpa were waiting for them at the end of the trip.
It was a good weekend, lots of blogging material but all that will come later this week. My folks watched the kids Saturday night while my husband and I did some shopping and went out to dinner. Dinner was also courtesy of my parents, for my birthday ... which was in November, or is it for this year's birthday? For which ever birthday we appreciated the night out, with this crazy summer we haven't seen much of each other and it was nice spending some time together, alone. Well not completely alone, but we were without kids meaning we could enjoy a conversation without interruptions, other then the waiter asking if everything was satisfactory.

The Weekend
Oh, how I look forward to the weekends; schedules have lessened, my husband is home, and usually a time to relax. Usually, like before kids. Regardless of the day, or number of adults, the kids still live in the house. Little ones need entertaining and feed, messes are made, and I hate to admit it but when my husband is home the house dirties quicker. Add all that to the fact that over the weekend I'm less inclined to clean. Hey, my husband has two days off, why not me as well?
So another weekend has come and gone. Saturday was lazy, but the kitchen was left in a mess as we dashed out to friends for the evening. It was cleaned by bedtime, but then Sunday came around. Out we dash to church, breakfast dishes overflowing the sink because the dishwasher held clean dishes. We returned mid-afternoon to the same dishes and the scattered messes around the house.
By dinner time, prepared by my wonderful husband, I was ready to tackle the messes. A 5 minute (more like 10 minute) quick pick-up took care of the clutter in the living room. The dishwasher was emptied, and quickly filled with dirty dishes. My house is now clean enough to start the week. Yes, I confess I'm somewhat of a neat freak. And, I find my Monday's start off much better when I'm not wading through piles of toys and dirty dishes. What better way to start off a new week then with a clutter-free home.
