Works for Me Wednesday

Welcome to Works for Me Wednesday, where we share what works for us with those who want to know.

The first Wednesday of each month Kristen gives WFMW a theme, and this month it is about frugality. Some people were born with the frugality gene, it wasn't me. Needless to say I'll be reading many, many to today's tips.

Since I love to shop I'm always looking for coupons and deals, saving me money during a shopping spree. Coupons? Yes, I know so 20th century.

Did you know there are websites out there that post coupon codes? No clipping, saving, stacking or filing. No rummaging through the catalogs and magazines for that coupon code you saw in the magazine. No more worrying about missing out on a deal. Before you shop check one of these websites and you will find the perfect deal for most any online store:

Retail Me Not
Current Codes
Coupon Cabin

This is only a sampling of the available coupon code websites. Just Google (or whatever your favorite search engine is) "Coupon Codes" and happy hunting.

A second favorite way to save when shopping online is going through our credit card's website. (OK, I realize the word "save" doesn't usually go with the words "shopping", and "credit card" but bare with me here.) We have a rewards credit card, 1 point = $1 spent. If I shop through our credit card's website I could receive many more points perr dollar spent.

Now, let me point out, this is not an excuse to spend money. However, life happens, shopping needs to happen, and if I have to shop online why not receive extra points which will ultimately give me a credit on my card, or a gift certificate for more shopping.

OK, I was reaching there, but let me give you an example.

We recently bought cellular shades for our living room. After searching for the best deal we went ordered them through ... OK, I can't remember where we bought the blinds, maybe American Blinds. We were looking at spending $800. After a quick search for coupon codes I found one for 25% off through this online store.

Now we were only spending $600. We went through our credit card website where the deal was 3 points for every $1 spent for this particular store. That comes out to 1800 points, those points add up quickly.

OK, so the shopping through my credit card's website is a stretch to frugality. But if you find yourself shopping online don't forget to check for those coupon codes.

Head over to We are THAT Family for more frugal WFMW hints.
